Hi, I’m Cynthia

I’m an author, speaker, and writing coach dedicated to helping writers replenish their creative juices and grow their skills through craft analysis, exercises, and practice.

As a writer, I love W. B. Yeats’s words:
“God guard me from the thoughts men think in the mind alone.
He that sings a lasting song thinks in the marrow of bone.”

Matthew Goodman’s one wish is for something he can’t have. Instead he focuses on the demands of his work as pastor of a Chicagoland megachurch which includes bringing in a new admin assistant onboard. New hire twenty-five-year-old Trish Card watches him with somber, lake-clear eyes. What he doesn’t know about Trish and her real reason for appearing will change his life forever.

The Surface of Water is about a megachurch pastor, a famous evangelist’s son, living in a world beyond his control and about a young woman trying to have the courage to speak truth to power.

Welcome

Cynthia Beach is a longtime professor of creative writing. She authored the novel The Surface of Water and writing book Creative Juices for Writers. Her contributions appear in newspapers, literary journals, and books. She cofounded Breathe Christian Writers Conference (2006-2021) and Scriptoria Workshop for Writers Moved by Faith.

Her Surface sequel, A Thousand Wings of Light, and Irish historical fiction, The Seaborne Series, are forthcoming.
